Photography PORTFOLIO
An amalgamation of landscapes
Photobooks are a medium in which I have always wanted to venture into. I have been collecting photobooks for many years now, and I think that the style of the book, from creation, to layout, and overall composition of the photos reflect the artist creating them. I have an equal love for the traditional and non traditional photobook style choices that artists make, and that’s why I wanted to combine the two for my first photobook. Since starting my photographic practice, I have always wanted to handmake a book that reflects what I see when I take photos, and how they are related to one another. For my first publication, my goal was to pair photographs that aren't inherently related when you initially look at them, but instead relate in shape, line, and form. When I am outside with my cameras, looking for a photo to take, I am automatically drawn in by the natural world, and how our manufactured one fits in and stands out against it. The title for my book, An Amalgamation of Landscapes, reflects this concept. Amalgamation means to combine multiple objects into a new identity, blending the concepts and imagery of both to create something new that still reflects its original state. By pairing photos of nature, with those of graffiti, Mesoamerican sculptures, buildings, underpasses, jewelry that I create, along with portraits, I present the viewer with a unique perspective of my work which hopefully reflects into the world around them. By having an organized layout of photographs, paired with the non-traditional integration of cropped in photos on each page, and the overall style of my binding choice, I am highlighting both the structured and creative vision of my photography and bookmaking.
